Laura Freudenthaler

Born in Salzburg in 1984, Laura Freudenthaler lives in Vienna. Her novel Die Königin schweigt, 2017 was awarded the Advancement Award of the Bremen Literature Prize and was named the Best German-Language Debut Novel at the Festival du premier Roman in Chambéry in 2018. Her novel Geistergeschichte, 2019 received the European Union Prize for Literature. In 2024, she was awarded the Anton Wildgans Prize.

Iris

Iris follows a writer whose life is shaped by constant travel across Europe and beyond. As Iris becomes increasingly fascinated by the history of the witch trials, memories from her own childhood begin to surface with growing intensity. The novel explores what it means for experiences to become inscribed in our bodies across generations and centuries, and asks how we ourselves participate in a history in which violence continues to be perpetuated.
