Eva Holzmair

Eva Holzmair was born in Korneuburg and grew up in Vienna, where she lives and works after completing her studies in interpreting. For several years she has also been active as a writer, publishing novels, short stories, crime fiction, and plays. She enjoys shifting between different linguistic registers and incorporating foreign-language elements or dialect.

The author gradually leads us into the world of growing old and being old. In a very personal way, she tells what it means, as a daughter, to lose a parent to dementia little by little while still retaining a sense of humor. At the same time, she offers insight into the past — into Lower Austria and Vienna of earlier times and into the emotional world of a generation shaped by frugality and a strong sense of tradition.
